Founder & Executive Director · CHIRAL Bangladesh
Md. Jubayer Hossain is a computational biologist and health data scientist based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 2020, he founded CHIRAL Bangladesh (Centre for Health Innovation, Research, Action and Learning) with a singular mission: to close the critical supervision gap in Bangladesh by placing undergraduate students directly onto active computational health research projects and mentoring them through to peer-reviewed publication.
Under his leadership, CHIRAL has grown into a vibrant, volunteer-run research incubator that champions open science, reproducible workflows, and student first-authorship. He has trained more than 3,000 researchers, students, and healthcare professionals in research methodology, bioinformatics, and health data analytics.
Beyond the centre, he serves as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Public Health at Daffodil International University, Bioinformatics Faculty at cBLAST (University of Dhaka), a Senior Collaborator on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME, University of Washington), and an official Nextflow Ambassador for Seqera.
Bridging single-cell multi-omics, predictive machine learning, and epidemiological surveillance to address urgent healthcare challenges in resource-constrained settings.

Explore Bio-AI →Investigating disease burden (cancers, TB, mental health, vaccine coverage) via the Global Burden of Disease consortium, alongside regional surveillance for dengue and AMR.
Public Health →Engineering scalable, cloud-ready computational pipelines using Nextflow, Docker, and nf-core standards, ensuring scientific transparency and open regional capacity.
Software & Tools →In Bangladesh, undergraduate science curricula offer limited exposure to modern computational workflows, study design, or scientific publishing. Under Md. Jubayer Hossain's supervision model, students join real research projects from day one.
Students formulate research questions, develop analysis protocols, write version-controlled analysis code in R, Python, and Nextflow, and draft manuscripts for submission to international indexed journals. Crucially, students retain first authorship on work they lead — ensuring genuine ownership and opening doors to postgraduate study and international research careers.
Teams trained under this approach have published in The Lancet family of journals, Scientific Reports, BMC Genomics, and Health Science Reports, and have presented their work at major academic conferences such as IEEE BECITHCON.
A selection of peer-reviewed articles and Global Burden of Disease collaborations led or co-authored by Md. Jubayer Hossain.
